Therapy & Coaching: Online & West Oxfordshire

For Your Peace of Mind

Sometimes life can feel too much, and we might struggle as we try to deal with things by repeating lifelong habits in how we think, feel or behave. That can look like saying things we wish we hadn’t, or putting off an important piece of work, or even feeling anxious in certain situations. Our unconscious minds are responsible for keeping us safe and are estimated to be responsible for around 90% of our daily behaviour. However what it believes will keep us safe is sometimes mistaken or has become outdated.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help us to update or rewire any beliefs or habits which are no longer helpful. This gives us more freedom and space to do more of the things we do want to do, in the way we want to do them.

About Me

My name is Joyce Elisha and I’m a fully qualified and insured Cognitive Hypnotherapist. I work with clients online and from a therapy room in the market town of Witney in West Oxfordshire. I became a therapist because I was lucky enough to be offered Cognitive Hypnotherapy and found that it was a turning point in how I lived my life. It enable me to rewire some of those outdated beliefs and habits that were running my life, and I learned new ways to think about my emotional life and some skills to manage things better for myself. It’s something that I believe can be beneficial for anyone, so I trained to pass on those benefits to others.

I am a registered member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), with enhanced DBS certification, as well as the Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioners Association (QCHPA).

Qualifications: Dip.CogHyp., NLP Prac., Ph.D., MSc., BSc.

Re-Wire

Many of us carry beliefs about ourselves or create habits that we formed in earlier life, but which have stopped being helpful and may actually have become problematic. Societal wisdom tells us that that’s just who we are, and we can’t change. However neuroscientific research is now showing that the brain can be rewired. During hypnosis brainwave patterns shift into the perfect state for rewiring, and the self-judgment area of the brain is subdued. You can read more about rewiring in here. I work with clients to identify what beliefs or habits they’d like to rewire and provide tailored hypnosis to achieve that.

Reflect

A considerable body of research shows that when we align our life choices and actions with our personal values, it leads to better overall wellbeing and life satisfaction. It also engages the brain’s reward system because values-based actions are driven by personal satisfaction and fulfilment. You can read more about this here. I offer clients the time and space to reflect on who they are and what matters most to them, so the can make decisions and take actions for a more fulfilled life.

Resilient

Managing the ups and downs of daily life becomes easier when we build our own internal resources, or resilience. We all know that (physical) health improves with regular exercise and a balanced diet, but we also need to know how to manage our emotional wellbeing. I help clients develop their own ability to manage life’s ups and downs with “psychoeducation” and wellbeing tools. Research shows that feeling more resilient is associated with reduced psychological distress, such as anxiety or depression.

You can learn more about cognitive hypnotherapy here.

Who do you work with?

I can work with adults, young people and children over the age of 5. I work with you to identify which habits or beliefs may be causing your issue and to define any changes you’d like to make. I always work at a speed that is comfortable for you.

Is there anyone you can’t work with?

I practice in accordance with clear client safety guidelines. Unfortunately, this means that if you have ever been diagnosed with any of the following contra-indicated conditions, I will be unable to work with you:

  • Epilepsy
  • Psychosis (Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorder)
  • If you are currently working with another therapist

What Happens in a session?

In the first session, we discuss your issue in detail and begin to explore what you’d like to achieve with your therapy.

After that, each session typically lasts 50 – 60 minutes. We work together using a blend of trance and techniques to resolve your issue.

You can also take away some of the techniques we use to grow your resources for managing your own future wellbeing.

Sessions can be held in person or online.

How many sessions will I need?

We all experience our issue in a unique way so there isn’t a typical number of sessions, but Cognitive Hypnotherapy is considered to be a relatively brief (e.g. compared to some talking-only approaches). You may feel better after 6 – 8 sessions and want to stop there or you may want to build on your progress with some further reflection. It’s up to you.

Is it confidential

Everything we discuss in session is confidential. I am only professionally obliged to share information in the (unusual) event that I consider you (or someone else) to be at immediate risk of harm.

Will I Lose control?

No. At no time would I be able to or want to “make” anyone or behave in a way they would not want to. What most people say about how they felt during hypnosis is that it felt relaxing, but they were still aware of their environment.
